Tour D’Acorn Raises Nearly £800 for Pupils in Need
BackOn Sunday 12 July 2026, five dedicated members of staff from Acorn Education Trust took on an extraordinary challenge, cycling more than 156 kilometres in a single day to raise money for pupils and families affected by the rising cost of living.
The event, named the Tour D’Acorn, saw the team travel through the scenic Wiltshire countryside, visiting most of the Trust’s 23 schools along the route.
The cycling team consisted of Anthony Sanchez, Rob Price, Hannah Shillito and Dave Cade, with Jodie Lock providing vital support throughout the day from the administration vehicle. Despite having different levels of cycling experience, the team was united by a shared ambition: to make a positive difference to the lives of students and families facing financial hardship.
Reflecting on the challenge, Dave Cade, Deputy Headteacher at Clarendon Academy, said:
“We are always thinking about our school communities and we know things are pretty tough at the moment. It has been an honour to be part of this team and to have completed this challenge to assist those in need so they don’t feel left out.”
The cyclists set off from Clarendon Academy at 4am, taking advantage of the cooler morning temperatures. Their route took them through towns and villages including Rowde, Devizes, Pewsey, Durrington, Great Wishford, Warminster and Westbury. Along the way, colleagues from across the Trust provided refreshments and encouragement, helping to create a supportive and celebratory atmosphere.
After completing the 156km journey, the team returned to Clarendon Academy in Trowbridge at 12.40pm, having successfully completed the challenge in under nine hours.
The Tour D’Acorn has so far raised nearly £800, with funds going directly towards helping pupils and families in need through the provision of school uniforms, learning supplies and support for extracurricular activities.
Donations are still being accepted, and those wishing to support the appeal can do so via the fundraising link or QR code:
