Homework
What is my child learning in school?
Our school website contains full details of our curriculum (what children learn).
You can find the details of how our curriculum is designed, along with the content for each different subject, by clicking here. Each subject page contains a roadmap that outlines what students study in each term of school from Years 7-11.
Homework for Years 7-9 (Key Stage 3)
We know that consistency and simplicity are important to parents and to students. Having a regular pattern of homework makes it easier for young people to organise themselves, but also helps you as parents and carers to support them and hold them to account.
Please take a look at the Homework Schedule below. This schedule means that students will have homework in specific subjects on the same days of the week. So, for example, Monday will always be Maths, and Tuesday will always be English.

Arbor can be used by both parents/carers and students to monitor homework setting and completion. Also included below is a series of FAQs to support the use of this app.
Typically, our expectation is that students should spend around 40 minutes on homework each evening, adding up to 3 hours a week. This represents a balance between making sure that homework is meaningful, whilst also allowing students to have time each evening to spend on other interests (like sport or performing arts, for example), or simply to relax at the end of a busy school day.
Key Stage 4 Homework (Years 10-11)
Homework is set by each subject that your child studies on a regular basis. Typically, for English, Maths and Science, this is on a weekly basis; for options subjects like Geography or History, it is fortnightly.
Homework at Key Stage 4 is designed around three strategies to help students achieve their best at GCSE level:
Know it: This helps students remember facts, ideas or other relevant information that they need to know in each subject.
Use it: This helps students learn how to apply their knowledge to exam-style questions and essays.
Stretch it: This helps students aiming for grades 7 or higher to extend their learning.
Just like homework in Years 7-9, parents/carers and students can monitor homework setting and completion via the Arbor app.

If they are unable to do this, please email the teacher who has set the task. Staff email addresses can be found here: Staff Contacts - Clarendon Academy
Why does homework show as submitted late?
Arbor will show a task as submitted late when it is marked as complete from the due day onwards. To avoid this, it needs to be marked as complete the day before the due date.
Please note that Arbor serves as a homework planner for students only; they will not be sanctioned just because Arbor says late if the task is completed before the lesson it is due.
