Year 10 Future’s Day

Back
February 3rd 2022

On Wednesday 2nd February year 10 were off timetable for the day exploring different career paths and options for what comes after GCSEs and beyond. We explored apprenticeships and joined a live webinar from AWE. The work they do helps to make sure that our country and everyone in it is kept safe, every day. Were heard of the work that they do and from the mouths of two apprentices, one Level 3 and another Level 4. Both of whom have enjoyed their routes and the fact that they have been able to learn transferrable skills that work for their current job but also future roles they may move into.

A session followed on transferrable skills, which are skills that we may not be specifically taught, but that we learn through the hidden curriculum both within and outside of school. The skills we explored were listening; speaking; problem solving; creativity; staying positive; aiming high; leadership and teamwork. We spent time thinking of examples of where we show these and which we need to improve on.

We watched videos of people in different jobs and industries who explained what they do; how they got to where they are and the advice they would give to young people wanting to explore that job role.

The last two lessons started with a game of REAL or NOT REAL jobs and then joined Bath College Virtual webinars with a speech from the Principal, talk from students as well as guidance that if given for extra support, looking at inclusion, SEND and welfare at the college.

The students had a great day and a number left the day with ideas to explore for their futures.
