Year 10 Geography Trip to Lyme RegisBack
Between 16 – 17 June, Year 10 Geography students from Clarendon Academy visited Lyme Regis to investigate the success of coastal management strategies.
The students conducted primary research during their field trip, collecting data to see if the groynes had affected the gradient of the beach between different locations along the coast. Additionally, the students completed bi-polar analysis of the multi-million pound sea wall and rock armour; this helped them to assess variations in the environmental quality as a result of the different coastal management strategies.
Unfortunately, the sandy beach was closed for beach replenishment (the practice of adding sand to the beach to combat erosion). Although this meant that the students couldn’t access part of the coast, it was a great opportunity to see some soft-engineering in action.
Although it was a hot and busy couple of days, the students were amazing and collected some really interesting information. They will now analyse their data back in the classroom at Clarendon Academy. This analysis will help prepare them got the fieldwork section of their GCSE exam.
