Our recent Dance Showcase

Back
May 24th 2022

On Thursday 19th May 2022  we held our annual Dance showcase, this was the first show back after the pandemic hit us and Covid made all events pause. To say we were pleased and excited to be able to host a show again would be an understatement! I am delighted to say that we had students across all year groups participating this year from Year 7 right the way up to Year 12. Our show included a range of performances including GCSE and A-Level class work, exam performances, our dance extra-curricular clubs and some of the students own creations.

The evening is a brilliant overview and insight into our Dance department at Clarendon, and wow! What talented students we have! The show kicked off with our A-Level dancers tribute to Suffragettes and the Votes for Women movement. Our KS3 club dancers danced their way through the decades lindy hopping back to the 1920’s, hand jiving to the 50’s, providing some night fever through the 70’s and bringing us back to the present day with a heartbreak anthem. We even had some Beyoncé and Michael Jackson in there! This year there was also a guest performance from a local youth dance company run by Amy Foskett, a professional dancer and choreographer with whom we work with. The evening consisted of very brave solo dancers, duos, trios and group performances across all dance styles including contemporary, jazz and hip hop, so there was a huge variety on show!

All students involved have been working incredibly hard , rehearsing tirelessly in lessons, lunch times and after schools over the last couple of months in the lead up to the show. All of their hard work most certainly paid off as it was a truly amazing show and a huge hit with the audience! I am very lucky to work with such wonderful students and I am beyond proud of all of their performances and the show we put on together. We were also very lucky to have Tom in Year 9 make his debut as part of the Tech team and some lovely ex-students who gave up their time to assist with lighting, music and backstage running of the show. A huge thank you and well done to all staff and students who were involved, we can’t wait for the next one! Roll on 2023!
