Executive Headteacher’s  Update – 10th December 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you so much for the support you have given us this term.  Covid continues to cause schools many challenges, but our students have been so accommodating and resilient throughout. Their attendance has been strong and they have continually stepped up to the plate and adapted to each Covid measure as and when it is put in place. The latest measure around facemasks being the most recent.

As we reach the end of this long term, there are several key things we would like to update you on ready for the end of term and our return in January. These include:-

  • End of term arrangements
  • Lateral Flow Home Testing during the holidays
  • Our return in January and on-site Lateral Flow Testing
  • Information on how we will do the Lateral Flow Tests

End of Term arrangements

Friday the 17th of December is our final day of term and our students will be free to leave at 1.25pm to go and enjoy their Christmas holiday; they need it!  This is also a non-school uniform day. We encourage our students to wear something festive: the more Christmassy, the better.

Lateral Flow Home Testing during the holidays

The government has advised that students should continue to complete 2 lateral flow tests per week during the holiday.  We will be issuing them further lateral flow test kits next Tuesday, to ensure they enough to cover the break.  On completion of each test, please do continue to upload the results to the GOV.UK website, and inform us here at the school. Please see key information on this at the end of the letter.

Our return in January and on-site Lateral Flow Testing

In-line with government guidelines, students are required to have 1 lateral flow test on their return to school in January.

Like we did in September, we will stagger students’ return so that we can do this testing safely.  Please see the table below which will tell you when your son/daughter should come in for their test and when their first proper day back in school will be.

Please note: For Years 7, 8 and 9 we will set work on Show My Homework on Thursday the 6th January for them to complete at home. This is because they are not required in school for a test that day and we feel they should crack on with some work ready for their return on Monday the 10th January.

Information on how we will do the Lateral Flow Tests

We will be conducting the lateral flow tests in tutor group order, and your son/daughter will leave the school site once the test has been completed.

Appointment timings: Please could we ask that your child arrives promptly at the time allocated to avoid any delays, and comes with a facemask ready to wear in all indoor areas.  If your child has previously tested positive with a PCR test, please do not send them in for a lateral flow test if it is within 90 days of their appointment date below.  If you do send your child in for a lateral flow test, we will assume we have your consent to conduct on-site testing, and our records will be updated accordingly if they differ.

Key information on testing at home:

How do you upload the results to the GOV.UK website?

Please go to https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result or report by telephone to 119.

How do you inform school of the result after each test?

Please go to https://bit.ly/clarendonstudentresults.

What temperatures do you need to store and use the testing kits?

For the home testing kits to be effective, they must be stored and used at room temperature.

How to use the lateral flow test (watch the video below)?

Click here to see a video on how to complete the test.

If any of the lateral flow test results come back positive, a PCR test should be booked immediately.  If the PCR comes back positive, please inform us here at the school by calling our attendance line, and leaving us a message.  Our attendance line number is 01225 762686.  We will then contact you and advise you of the child’s return date.

Should you complete a lateral flow, or PCR test, after previously testing positive on a PCR?

If your child has previously tested positive with a PCR test, they should not be tested using either PCR or lateral flow tests for 90 days, unless they develop new symptoms during this time – in which case they should be retested immediately using PCR.  This 90-day period is from the initial onset of symptoms or, if asymptomatic when tested, their positive test result.
