Head of School Update - Control Measures

Back
November 29th 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

Following the announcement on Saturday 27th November by the Prime Minister about changes in restrictions, The Department for Education have contacted schools on Sunday afternoon with an update on face coverings in educational settings. There is also the request for secondary schools to complete a Lateral Flow Testing (LFT) on students on their return in January 2022.

Face coverings guidance for schools

·                     Face coverings should be worn in communal areas in all settings by staff, visitors and pupils or students in year 7 and above, unless they are exempt.

·                     Pupils or students (in year 7 or above) should continue to wear face coverings on public and dedicated school transport, unless they are exempt.

The other new measures for all individuals include:

·                     From Tuesday, face coverings will once again be compulsory in shops and on public transport

·                     All contacts of suspected Omicron cases will be required to self-isolate for 10 days. This is regardless of a person's vaccination status

·                     Anyone entering the UK will require a PCR test by the end of the second day after their arrival and will need to self-isolate until they have a negative result. The change will be brought in "as soon as possible" following agreement with the other UK nations (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)

·                     The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) - the UK's vaccine advisory body - will consider giving the booster vaccine "to as wide as group as possible". It will also reduce the gap between the second dose and booster

We ask parents to support the school in making sure your son / daughter has a face mask to wear when they are in communal areas. Staff will remind students to put a mask on as they enter the buildings, but support from home and equipping with a face mask will make such requests that little bit easier.

LFT in January 2022

We will be in contact in the next few days regarding Lateral Flow Testing (LFT) in January 2022. The process will be very similar to the one we offered in September when students were fantastic in their approach, organisation and support.

With continued thanks to all our families as we continue to challenge these most uncertain times.

As always, if there is anything that the school can do to help support your family, please do not hesitate to contact us on the numbers below.
