Dear Year 11 students, parents and carers,

RE: Sixth Form Open Evening

We are delighted to invite you to attend our Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday 25th November between 6pm – 8pm.

We are incredibly proud of our Sixth Form: It is a fantastic place for students to study and engage in a wide range of enrichment opportunities, all of which help them progress towards their future career or study goals. We hope that you will take this opportunity to find out more about what we have to offer.

The Sixth Form Open Evening will be an opportunity for you to explore the excellent teaching and facilities we have to offer students who have completed their GCSEs. We will explain how the Sixth Form operates, including how lessons are organised, the Sixth Form tutor system, how we support students in progressing towards post-18 options like apprenticeships and university, and the extra-curricular activities that we have to offer. Lead teachers for each of the A-Level and vocational (BTEC / CTEC) options we offer will also deliver talks on the features of their subjects and the careers / future study pathways linked to them.

In order to run this event safely on the school site, we have had to adopt a format that allows us to maintain social distancing and that helps us limit the potential for any transmission of infection. Our first priority must always be keeping our school community safe and well. As such, we are taking the following measures:

  • Each presentation we deliver will be available at three different time slots, but each presentation will have a strict limit on the number of people who can attend.
  • We are limiting the number of people who can attend each presentation to two per household. So, typically, this means one student and one parent / carer per presentation.
  • We respectfully ask that all attendees wear face masks when attending a presentation and when moving around the school buildings. Staff members will do the same, although they will remove masks when delivering presentations.
  • We also respectfully ask that all students, parents and carers complete a lateral flow test before attending the event. If you need any help accessing lateral flow tests, please contact the school reception on 01225 762686, or visit the UK Government website here
  • Hand sanitiser will be available outside each of the venues where presentations will take place; we will encourage all attendees and staff members to make frequent use of it.

In order to book a place on any of the presentations, please visit the page that we have created for this event on Eventbrite. The page is available if you click here, but a QR code that will direct you to it is also provided opposite.

You will need to register for an Eventbrite account before you make any bookings. The website provides clear information on how to do this, but if you require any help, please contact the Sixth Form Administrator, Mrs Lisa Maidment, who will be pleased to help:

Email: lmm@clarendonacademy.com

Phone: 01225 762686

I have included a table along with this letter that provides details on the title of each of the presentations we will be delivering, an indication of their content, the times when they will take place, and their locations.

We understand that the format we are adopting will mean that some students and their parents / carers might not be able to attend some of the presentations that interest them. We will ensure that all the presentations we deliver as part of the Open Evening are available via the school website after the event has taken place. Please note that students will also have the opportunity to learn more about each of the subjects we offer in the Sixth Form as part of their Taster Day in December.

When you arrive at the school to attend the Open Evening, please park in the main carpark opposite Reception and use the front gate to access the school grounds. A member of SLT will be here to greet you and to direct you around the school site.

Refreshments will be available throughout the evening from the foyer of the Spectrum building.

During the Open Evening, paper applications for entry into the Sixth Form in September 2022 will be available. They will also be available online from 25th November via the Sixth Form section of the school website: https://www.clarendonacademy.com/171/welcome-to-clarendon-sixth-form

Although our preference is to host this event in person, we will continue to monitor the levels of Covid-19 in the local community. If rates of infection become significantly higher and we do not feel that we can run this event safely, we will revert to a virtual version. If this happens, I will contact you all as soon as possible.

If you have any questions about the Open Evening or the Sixth Form, please do not hesitate to share them with me: mlg@clarendonacademy.com.

I look forward to seeing many of you on the evening of 25th November.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Mike Griffiths

(Assistant Headteacher: Sixth

Form and Staff Development)
