Mr Price and Mr Lawrence have been visiting tutor groups throughout the year, listening to what you like about your school and what you would like to change. Here are some of the things you’ve said, and what we have done as a result…
You said “We want new, better ways to be rewarded for good behaviour, achievement and effort”
And so we have brought in a new rewards scheme where achievement points are given out by teachers, and these equate to great prizes like Dominos lunches, Film Fridays, Amazon Vouchers and (coming soon) the Executive Lounge! We have an expectation that every teacher gives out points every week and we are also encouraging teachers to ensure KS4 students get as many points as KS3.
You said “we don’t use the school planners and the money would be best used elsewhere”
And so we have cancelled planners for most students, whilst still ordering a set for Year 7 to help them settle in and a few extra planners for students in Years 8-11 who still feel they would benefit from having one. We are also developing the website so all the information that would have been in the planners will be easily downloadable from there.
You said “many of the classrooms, corridors and toilets are looking tired”
And so we are starting a redecoration programme with the Maths corridor in term 6, including new paintwork and lighting. Other areas of school will follow in the next academic year. We are also working with local photographers, graphic designers and printers to bring in a new series of attractive display boards and signs around school which will highlight all the great things about our school and update the school’s image.
You said “team check had lots of positive benefits but it happened too often when the time could be better spent with tutors”
And so we have changed tutor periods to the morning, limited team check to one major meeting on a Monday and focused on your tutors, who know you best, making sure you are equipped and informed for the day ahead in an improved tutor period.
